1)     We would like to start with a big ‘hug’ to our community for all your support and positive energy towards Boyne PS.  We want to wish every family a wonderful holiday break with special moments filled with love and kindness.

We know there has been much conversation about our parking lot in the morning and the Kiss and Ride area.  Although it does take some time in the morning and there is a large volume of vehicles, our partners at Milton Parking Authority have commented that it does run well in comparison to other schools in the area.  We now have Viola Desmond Public School leaving our site so our volume should decrease.  Parking off site and walking continues to be the suggested plan for your morning routine.  If you choose to use our Kiss and Ride area we want to remind you of the following expectations for staff as put out by the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario:

“The Halton District School Board does not support the practice of assisting students with getting into or out of cars when parents/guardians are dropping off or picking up.  This practice is a potential safety issue for staff. While it is acknowledged that this practice may support the flow of cars through school parking lots, it is advised that staff do not:

-          Open or close car doors

-          Reach into cars to undo seatbelts

-          Assist students getting into or out of cars.”

Please not that this information is for our general drop off area.  It does not apply to educational assistants who are assigned specifically to students with special education needs.  This is the reason our school parking lot is closed at the end of the day.  Students with special transportation needs require the specialized busing to use our main parking lot.  Signs are placed out in the parking lot every day and we ask parents not to use the parking lot for this reason.

3)      Our School Council is beginning a new committee to assist families with Special Education students.  Please feel free to contact us in order to get more information.  Consider coming to our school council meetings the first Monday of every month.  Here is the Working Together document from the Board of Education if you wish to see more information at this time.

4)      The first school council meeting of 2019 will be Monday, January 7th.  The agenda is attached below.  All are welcome.

In a very short amount of time we will all be back to school.  Happy New Year.  We look forward to a wonderful 2019.  All the best to you and your loved ones.
