From the Principal’s Desk
We loved welcoming families to Boyne on Thursday evening. We had a wonderful turnout and left feeling excited about what a great community we have. If you weren’t able to come, please reach out to your child’s teacher to make an introduction. We know that students' well-being is enhanced by a strong relationship between home and school.
We also are enjoying celebrating 10 years of Making a Difference at Boyne. Families enjoyed 10 year activities at the open house.
We are so lucky to be part of such a great community!

Important Information and Reminders
Walk and Wheel to School!
Students are encouraged to walk or bike to school when possible! It’s safe, good for the environment and your health, and teaches your child independence and community awareness. Plus, fresh air can boost learning and performance.
Same goes for anyone who is eligible for transportation – walk to your bus stops and take that bus to school! It’s an excellent way for students to learn about multiple forms of transportation, and will serve them well into the future when it’s time to take transit to get around throughout their lives.
[*For senior elementary and secondary students in Oakville, Burlington, and Milton only*] If your municipality has a transit system, you can look into programs that offer subsidized or even free municipal bus passes! Another great way for students to get around and see their neighbourhood while going to and from school.
The HDSB offers a handy Walk & Wheel Map that helps you plan efficient walking or cycling routes to school. Just select your school and mode of travel to estimate how long it will take. The map can help plan daily trips to the school by active transportation or even help with finding locations to park that are a five minute walk from the school.
Ready to give it a go? Visit the HDSB Walk & Wheel to School page to explore routes, tips and resources: Walk & Wheel to School. Let’s work together to create a healthier, safer and more connected school journey!
Spiritwear!!
Our Boyne Spiritwear is ready for purchase! We have changed vendors, so the link looks slightly different, but easy to navigate! Head to SchoolTee.com to purchase your orders! The orders close on September 28th, 2025.

Halton Learning Foundation
Help 300 HDSB Students Start School with Confidence by Sept. 30
Some students in our community walked into school last week without a backpack, supplies, or even lunch. The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF), thanks to our donors, is here to help. Since the beginning of this school year, HLF has supported more than 126 students across our HDSB schools, including 70 students in the past two days alone, with emergency help and school supplies. HLF’s goal is to help 300 students by September 30, but with only a few weeks left, they are asking our generous community to step in urgently, to make sure they can continue to say “YES” to every request for emergency support they receive. Here's what one parent shared last week about what saying “YES” meant to her family:
"Just wanted to say how grateful I am for this support. I’m a single mom, and because of your help, I’m able to get what my daughter needs for back-to-school and food, and I’m so unbelievably grateful for the support."
Make a gift for a student in need today: Donate Now
Together, we can give students not just supplies, but confidence, dignity, and hope.
Boyne School Social Worker and Child&Youth Care Provider
We would like to introduce our school’s Child and Youth Care Practitioner (CYC-P): Coralee Mowery and our School’s Social Worker(s) (SW): Dania Asst. Coralee and Dania will be a part of the Boyne community this year.
What is a CYC-P? CYC-Ps are an active and integral part of the school community, often participating in school-wide activities (e.g. well-being teams, youth engagement, parent/guardian/caregiver information sessions, etc.) with educators to enhance student well-being. Students receive mental health literacy and social-emotional learning while at school through the curriculum. As a complement to this learning, CYC-Ps promote mental health through sharing and co-leading evidence-based social-emotional learning and activities to provide class wide programming. CYC-Ps are also part of response teams for all schools in the Halton District School Board (e.g. Traumatic Events Response Team, and suicide risk screening).
How CYC-Ps can support students
Parents/guardians/caregivers may receive notification letters and updates throughout the school year about evidence-based social-emotional literacy materials shared in classrooms with CYC-Ps. CYC-Ps can also provide specific opportunities for students through small group or individual sessions focusing on psychoeducation, well-being and skill building. These sessions support students in reaching their goals. This is done in consultation with and consent from parents/guardians/caregivers.
What is a Social Worker? Social Workers are an integral part of the school community. Social Workers work together with students, parents/caregivers, staff and community providers to help students feel well and have a positive school experience. Students learn ways to address their feelings and emotions through identity-affirming evidenced-based therapeutic interventions. Social Workers, like CYC-Ps, are also part of response teams for all schools in the HDSB. Access to a Social Worker is done through your child’s school with parent/guardian consent through the SRT process. Grade 7 and 8 students ( who are 12 years of age and older) can self-refer and receive individual psychotherapeutic support.
How can Social Workers support students? Social Workers use psychotherapeutic interventions to support students on a variety of issues. These interventions are evidence-based and are identity-affirming to ensure that students feel that their voice is being heard and validated. Some interventions used include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Social Workers and students work towards goal based outcomes.
Further information and additional support about the full complement of services from Student Well-Being
Please refer to the HDSB Mental Health & Well-Being webpage for more information on the support parent section available to students at school and how to access this support.

Safety at drop off and dismissal:
Students must use sidewalks and are encouraged to avoid the area by the parking lot. We are asking all students to use the south sidewalk by the fence, to avoid crossing at the entrance to the parking lot. Please do not cross between buses. Walking or riding is the healthiest and safest way to get your child to school. If your child is eligible for the bus, please send them on the bus instead of driving. This also helps reduce traffic.
Opt-in to receive text messages from the HDSB
If you provided your child’s school with a mobile phone number upon registration, you were sent a text message from SchoolMessenger providing you with the opportunity to opt-in to receive text messages from the HDSB. The text message requested that parents/guardians reply “Y” to opt-in to receive attendance text notifications.
If you replied “Y” to the text message, you are subscribed to receive notifications by text about your child’s attendance.
If you did not reply to the text message, you will not receive notifications by text from the HDSB.
No repeat invitations to opt-in will be sent. If you wish to receive text message attendance notifications, please update your communication preferences on the SchoolMessenger website or app once you have created your account with SchoolMessenger.

Important Information and Reminders
Safety at Boyne
Many thanks to parents who have set their school routines to avoid driving near the school at Drop Off or Pick Up. We have more than 1100 students who are arriving and departing at these times, and we have worked hard to make this as safe as possible. Unfortunately due to constraints around the building this is not a convenient situation for parents who wish to drive. We have prioritized SAFETY over CONVENIENCE. Please know that our school was designed as a “walk to” school. As we have grown we have also added busing for students who are further than 1.6 km from the school and for those who live north of Louis St. Laurent. How can you help to make Boyne safer?
1. Walk to School HDSB - Walk and Wheel to School webpage
2. Send your child on the Bus if they qualify
3. Park away from the school in a legal parking spot and walk back
4. Choose a meeting spot far away from the school
5. Do not make U-turns in front of the school
6. Please do your part to avoid anyone getting hurt
7. Please note that scooters and bikes may not be brought into the school and must be locked at the racks at Door 11 or by the south sidewalk.
COMING SOON - A Crosswalk and a Crossing Guard - at the corner of Farmstead and Duignan! We have been meeting regularly with the Town of Milton and the HDSB Facilities team, to share ideas about making our school safer.

Expectations
During the month of September, teachers are helping students to be aware of the expectations for students in Halton. The purpose is to: maintain a consistent standard of behaviour; to provide clear communication to all stakeholders about school and system culture; and to ensure safe, caring and inclusive experience for the entire school community. We ask families to review the following expectations with their children as well:
Responsible Use Procedures for Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
HDSB Code of Conduct - Please review. There are responsibilities outlined for Students, Staff and Parents. Students will be reviewing the Code of Conduct over the first few weeks and at various times throughout the year.

Hearing and Vision Screening - School Screening Association
Our clinic will be at your school, Boyne PS, on: October 2nd – October 8th, 2025 (pending participation). Register your child and complete the payment through this Online Registration.
Deadline for registration is Sept 30th and the duration at the school may be adjusted based on student participation.
Your child’s Hearing and Vision should be screened every year!
A fee of $25.00 is collected to help offset the cost of bringing this clinic to your school.
Why Screening Matters:
Growing children are very susceptible to middle ear problems and one of the best ways to prevent hearing loss is early detection of middle ear function issues.
Vision issues are common in children, so early detection is crucial for their healthy development and academic success.
Our screening program helps identify hearing and vision concerns before they impact learning and social development, ensuring children get the support they need to thrive. As part of the program, we will refer any results that are considered outside the normal range to the parents for follow-up with their physician and/or optometrist.
For hearing concerns, we recommend bringing your referral to your physician, who can then refer you to an ENT specialist, which is covered by OHIP. Alternatively, you have the option to schedule an appointment with an Audiologist without needing a referral from your family physician. Please note that visits to an Audiologist may not be covered by OHIP, and you could incur a fee ranging from $75 to $150 or more.
Your child's hearing is not being monitored unless they're seeing an audiologist or an ENT specialist, making our screening program a valuable resource for your child's health.
While eye exams are covered by OHIP, our hearing clinic offers a basic vision screening for students participating in the hearing clinic.
For more information and to address all your questions and concerns, please visit our website at www.schoolscreeningassociation.ca.
Spoons and Forks
Lots of children come to school without utensils. We are looking for donations of plastic/wooden forks and spoons in the office. Thank you.

Drop Off and Pick Ups
First Day:
Bus students - please begin riding the bus on the first day. This is when routines are being established so this is important!
Morning - Kindergarten will meet in the K playground, Grades 1-6 will meet on the field (please see map below - in a line from Grade 1 near Louis St. Laurent, to Grade 6 near the small field); Grade 7-8 to the gym through Door 10.
After the first day - we have direct entry after 8:40am - Portable students to their portables, Kindergarten to the Kindergarten gates, Grade 1 and 12-1, 2-1 and 2-2 - Door 4 (on the blacktop), Grade 6,7,8 - Door 10
Pick Up:
Please make sure your child knows where they will meet you at the end of the day. Please make sure your child’s teacher knows how your child is getting home.
Students who do not take a bus:
Students in Grades 3-8 will be dismissed to the blacktop to meet siblings or adults or to walk home. Grade 1 and 2 will be dismissed from the portable doors, or in the side playground near Louis St. Laurent for those classrooms inside the school. Kindergarten students are dismissed from their gate.
Parking:
We encourage our families to walk to school! Please set your routines right away to avoid driving in front of the school. There are NO U-TURNS in front of the school. There is NO Parking on the East side of Farmstead. Milton By-Law Officers will be ticketing cars that are parked in illegal areas.
New! Crossing Guard - coming soon!
All students crossing Farmstead MUST cross with the crossing guard at the Farmstead and Duignan Crosswalk.
*Many thanks to the Town of Milton for helping us to make drop off and dismissal safer.
Safety at drop off and dismissal:
Students must use sidewalks and are encouraged to avoid the area by the parking lot. We are asking all students to use the south sidewalk by the fence, to avoid crossing at the entrance to the parking lot. Please do not let children cross between buses. Walking or riding is the healthiest and safest way to get your child to school. If your child is eligible for the bus, please send them on the bus instead of driving. This also helps reduce traffic.
Food Orders - coming soon!
